Compton Run Club x Trap Medicine x HOKA Demo Run, August 7, 2021

I connected with the Compton Run Club through my friend Leon, and on May 1st 2021 they were the first group I’d run with since November 2020. I’d missed running with lots of people at once dearly, and CRC Founder Ray and everyone in the club were a blast to catch miles with on a beautiful Saturday morning.

Ray and I quickly got to brainstorming and cooking up a couple of projects together, the first of which was our CRC x Trap Medicine x Drymax x HOKA demo run on Saturday, August 7th, which also happened to fall right after CRC’s 2nd birthday. The stars aligned well, the day was perfect, and I’m proud and honored as always that I get to do these types of events in my role at HOKA.

I was especially happy to have Trap Medicine in the mix with this activation in particular. Branden, Jahmil, and their team do incredible work through Trap Medicine by providing resources and services to fight clear inequities that exist in our communities when it comes to general health, life expectancy, and access to care.

I’ve never had people get blood pressure tests or take-home cancer screening tests at one of my events before, and having Trap Medicine on deck to speak to event attendees as well as people simply walking through the park was a gift and set the day apart from any other I’ve had on the job.

All of this amounted to a fantastic celebration of CRC’s 2nd birthday. The warmth, generosity, and inclusive spirit of everyone involved was a joy to be a part of, and catching community service, a solid 5k run, lots of laughs, and good friends on one beautiful Saturday was a dream situation for me. There’s more to come from all of us, and we’ll be shouting all of it from the rooftops very soon.

Personally, this run was also a much-needed decompression session for what I had in store the following day. Three miles at a relaxed pace is a good way for me to loosen up, and to share it with friends on the best vibes possible put me in an ideal place, mentally and physically, before heading into the hardest hike of my life the following morning. I’ve spoken to it a little on Strava, and I’m looking forward to sharing more in the near future.

I hope everyone is staying healthy and strong, be well and happy Friday-eve, everybody!
