Tequepis Trail, August 15, 2021

I’d never been to Tequepis before Sunday, Lake Cachuma is and always will be my favorite place on the planet, so getting a new, wider, and higher view of Cachuma than I’d ever had before on the way up and down this spot, all the while catching plenty of vert and variety, single track and fire road, techy sections, smooth downgrades, a few snakes, and all the Pacific you could want to see at once on the other side of the ridge, all of it together made for a pretty amazing introduction to this trail.
Thanks again, Kris, can’t imagine it’ll be long before I’m back here.
I’ve been taking it slow since last Sunday-to-Monday’s physical, mental, and spiritual gauntlet in Palm Springs, I’m fine playing the smart game and trying to give my body what it needs to get heal up in the midst of training, which can feel like a drain as well, but it felt very reassuring and empowering to feel so good on what I’d consider a fairly challenging trail at this distance today.
And hey catching 9th on a segment anytime is a lovely surprise, much less during round one!
The last two photos are from a quick beach break in Ventura on the way to the trail and a post-run lunch at Lake Cachuma, respectively. I really couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day, and appreciate every second and experience i get out of my Sunday trail days.
I hope everyone stayed safe and spunky on a lovely Sunday, happy trails, everybody!
